    About Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar:

    • Born in 1908, in Pasumpon in Tamil Nadu, he was a freedom-fighter cum spiritual leader and was seen as a deity among the Mukulathor community.
    • He did not accept traditional Hinduism because it supported the ‘Varnashrama’.
    • He regularly fought against the evils of the Hindu religion.
    • He supported the temple entry movement and he helped the activist Vaidyanatha Iyer take Dalits to Meenakshi Temple in Madurai.

      Birth

      Muthiramalinga Thevar was born on 30 October 1908 to Ukkirapandi Thevar and Indiraniammal in Pasumpon by of Ramnad district.

      Personal life

      He was under the charge of his maternal grandmother Parvathiammal in the Kallupatti Village, since 1910.

      School life

      Earlier in 1917, he attended the classes in the elementary school run by American Missionaries in Kamuthi. he went to attend the American Missionaries run elementary school classes in the Kamuthi. Then he was admitted in the Pasumalai High School located near Thirupparankundram. Later, he moved to Christian High School located in Madurai.

      In 1920, Muthuramalinga Thevar made his fight opposing the implementation of the Criminal Inheritance Act in Madurai, Tirunelveli and Ramanathapuram.

      Ukkirapandi Muthuramalinga Thevar (30 October 1908 – 30 October 1963), also known as Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar, was a politician, Independence Activist, Freedom Fighter, and a patriarch of Thevar community.[1] He was elected three times to the national Parliamentary Constituency.[2] The birth anniversary of Muthuramalinga Thevar on October 30 is celebrated annually by the Thevar community in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu as Thevar Jayanthi.[3][4]

      Muthuramalinga Thevar was born on 30 October 1908 in Pasumpon, Ramnad District. From 1910, he was in the custody of his maternal grandmother Parvathiammal in the neighbouring village of Kallupatti. Parvathiammal was furious with Muthuramalinga Thevar's father for having taken two new wives shortly after the death of his second wife.[citation needed]
