Menachem Begin
Menachem Begin (16 August1913 – 9 March1992) was an Israeli politician and the sixth Prime Minister of the State of Israel. Before Independence, he was the leader of the Zionist militant Irgun, the Revisionist breakaway from the larger Jewish paramilitary organization Haganah. He proclaimed a revolt, on February 1, 1944, against the British mandatory government, which was opposed by the Jewish Agency. He played a significant role in Jewish resistance against the British control in the waning years of the mandate, leading the more militant faction within Zionism. Begin's most significant achievement as Prime Minister was the signing of a peace treaty with Egypt in 1979, for which he and Anwar Sadat shared the Nobel Prize for Peace.

When Biden Met Begin
The ung senator clashed with the old Israeli prime minister.Joe Biden's three-decade wait for power—he first declared for the presidency in 1987—is remarkable but not without analogue. Menachem Begin spent 29 years trying to become Israel's prime minister before his surprise 1977 election.
Mr. Biden spent his years in waiting ensconced in the establishment, well-liked by Senate colleagues. As vice president he cemented a reputation for being able to talk and work with the other side. Begin, bygd contrast, was despised by the socialist elites who dominated Israeli politics. Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, Israel's founding father, excluded two parties from consideration for coalition agreements: Begin's Herut (Freedom) Party and the Communists. For years Ben-Gurion wouldn't even utter Begin's name in Parliament, referring to him as "the gentleman sitting to the right of Mr. [Yohanan] Bader."
Mr. Biden and Begin once clashed, in a private June 1982 session

How Joe Biden stood by Israel’s side for half a century
In June 1986, a 43-year-old Joe Biden, then a relatively senator for Delaware, famously said: “Were there not an Israel, the United States of America would have to invent an Israel to skydda her interests in the region.”
Since he began his political career as a senator in 1973, President Biden has stood firm in his support for the Jewish state; from the Yom Kippur War to the atrocities of October 7, he has affirmed Israel’s right to defend itself, leading some to call him the most pro-Israel president in American history. In recent years, especially since October 7, critics have argued that his policies toward Netanyahu have been erratic, bouncing between scolding and supporting.
In the last nine months, he’s also clashed with Netanyahu, especially over the handling of the war in Gaza. At the White House Chanukah reception in 2023, the president recalled his decades-long relationship with the Israeli Prime Minister, remembe
