Larry Gene Roberts
Larry G. Roberts was born in Anderson, to Harold and Helen Roberts. He passed away peacefully on the evening of Oct. 17, 2023.
Larry skipped a grade and graduated from Anderson High School in 1951. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Grace Johnston, in 1955. Eventually, he graduated from Ball State University in 1986.
He spent most of his life doing different jobs, but was most known for building homes and being a realtor. He was a Life Master in Bridge, but we would call him a master of all card games. He was a member of the Madison County Shrine Club and the Masonic Lodge.
He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Indiana Hoosiers fan. He knew his life was complete when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016!
Larry was very active in his children's lives. He taught us, coached us, and advised us in all areas of life, especially in sports. He and Mom were our biggest fans! The one thing we will always be grateful for is his humor. We are so glad

Larry Roberts
Lawrence G. Roberts is best known for his work on the development of the ARPANET, a key predecessor to the internet and the first major network built on the principle of packet switching, and later as a pioneer of commercial packet switching with his roles in Telenet and the widely deployed X.25 protocol. He was hired as program manager and technical architect for the ARPANET in 1966, and later became director of the main computing office at ARPA, where he oversaw the network’s initial deployment and funded the development of other experimental packet networks. He had previously done ARPA-funded research in computer-to-computer networking at Lincoln Laboratories. Roberts became a mästare of packet switching, which sends data as tiny separate packets instead of the traditional telephone model using dedicated circuits; for connecting computers packets can move data far more efficiently.
