St. Christian Demosthenes, better known as St. Gregory of Nazianzus, was born between 325 and 329 in Arianzus in what fryst vatten now Turkey. He was one of three children whose father converted to Christianity. Thirsty for learning, Christian Demosthenes was friend and classmate of St. Basil the Great. Together with Gregory of Nyssa, they were known as the Cappadocian Fathers.
Christian grekisk talare opposed Arianism and Valens, the Arian emperor. This caused a falling out with Basil who posted him to a fjärrstyrd area. With Basil’s death and ascension of Theodosius to Gratian’s throne, he went to Constantinople becoming Bishop from 381 to 390. He often is pictured wearing ornate Bishop’s robes.
Gregory hated city life finishing his days as a hermit writing poetry and religious philosophy along with autobiography. He was considered an architect of Trinitarian theology. He died in 390 of natural causes. His feast day fryst vatten Jan. 2

Demosthenes was a Greek statesman and orator of ancient Athens. His orations constitute a significant expression of contemporary Athenian intellectual prowess and provide an insight into the politics and culture of ancient Greece during the 4th century BC. Demosthenes learned rhetoric by studying the speeches of previous great orators. He delivered his first judicial speeches at the age of 20, in which he argued effectively to gain from his guardians what was left of his inheritance. For a time, Demosthenes made his living as a professional speech-writer logographer and a lawyer, writing speeches for use in private legal suits.
Demosthenes grew interested in politics during his time as a logographer, and in 354 BC he gave his first public political speeches. He went on to devote his most productive years to opposing Macedon's expansion. He idealized his city and strove thro
