    Jim Dine (born June 16, 1935) is an American artist. Dine's work includes painting, drawing, printmaking (in many forms including lithographs, etchings, gravure, intaglio, woodcuts, letterpress, and linocuts), sculpture, and photography.

    Dine's first formal training took the form of night courses at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, in which he enrolled in 1952 at the age of 16,[1] while attending Walnut Hills High School.[2] In 1954, while still attending evening courses, Dine was inspired by a copy of Paul J. Sachs' Modern Prints and Drawing

    Bien qu'il fût un des pionniers du Pop Art, bien que l'accueil de ses premiers happenings annonçât déjà une carrière des plus glorieuses, Jim Dine s'éloigna très rapidement de la scène new-yorkaise pour tenter de se libérer de toute doctrine avant-gardiste. Ce mouvement qui prenait appui sur la culture de masse ne pouvait convenir à son aspiration de création singulière. Il lui fallait trouver sa voie, son vocabulaire intérieur.

    Après des détours par la poésie, le théâtre, la scénographie, il entreprit un long et patient chemin de recherches, puisant son inspiration dans l'introspection et sa vie personnelle : la figure, les outils de son quotidien, les peignoirs, les cœurs, les Vénus... constituent son langage, qui au fil des ans nous est devenu familier.
