You've probably noticed by now that chef, broadcaster and writer Anthony Bourdain meant a lot to people. Social media has been awash with tributes to the man since news of his passing last Friday night, and the ache of his absence will linger for a long time.
He meant a lot to me as well. I never met him, but his approach to travel and food lit a fire inside of me about those two same things. He showed me I had to step out of my comfort zone. And he showed me to some amazing restaurants.
I got into Bourdain through rock'n'roll.

When Anthony Bourdain was reported dead by suicide in June , Oscar-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville was shocked and confused—common sentiments among those who had come to love the charismatic chef turned cultural explorer.
“Like the public, it just didn’t compute for me,” says Neville, who sifted through 20, hours of footage and interviewed those in Bourdain’s inner circle to find answers. The resulting documentary biopic, Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain, makes its way to theaters Friday, three years after Bourdain’s death. “Part of making the bio was trying to understand his suicide, but also to understand who he was, and what made him tick,” he says. “I went into it really just wanting to know who this guy was.”

“Road Runner,” the new documentary about celebrity chef, author and world-traveling CNN host Anthony Bourdain, “stops just short” of blaming his girlfriend Asia Argento for his suicide, according to previews of the film.
But the film suggests that Bourdain became “addicted” to Argento, an Italian actress and filmmaker, in the same way “he was hooked on heroin earlier in his life,” said Daily Beast writer Matt Wilstein. The implication from “Road Runner” is that “he would do anything for her,” including in ways that potentially hurt him personally and professionally, according to Wilstein.
Bourdain, 61, died by suicide on June 8, in France, where he was filming an episode of his beloved, Emmy-winning CNN series “Parts Unknown.” The series made Bourdain a global icon for the way he engagingly and thoughtfully explored the cultures and cuisines of lesser-known parts of the world.
