I have always strived to capture moments that speak to me and thus to the viewer. While covering crisis situations, it's easy to go for the cheap and sensational shot. Peter Cochrane
Peter Cochrane is a studio-based, still life photographer. He tells stories of resilience, optimism, and metamorphosis through the use of botany, horticulture, art history, science fiction, and autobiography. He builds three-dimensional, narrative set pieces with the intention of translating them through photographic processes. He uses materials ranging from the 8x10 film camera to light-sensitive substrates.
His work has appeared in Headmaster, The San Francisco Chronicle, Vast Magazine, Hyperallergic, Brink, Artslant, the MoCP lecture series, the de Young Museum, the Vermont Center for Photography, the Tokyo International Photo Awards, and others. He is a recipient of the Snider Prize and has been a finalist for several awards including the Hopper Prize, the Fine Art Photography Award, the Exposure Award, and the Kodak Photo Film Award. Biography/Statement
Born in in Nyack, a small town on the Hudson River about forty miles north of New York City, Edward Hopper was the son of a local businessman. After spending a brief period at a school for illustrators, he attended the New York School of Art from to His teachers there were William Merritt Chase, Kenneth Hayes Miller, and Robert Henri. Henri, above all, became important to Hopper, not so much in artistic as in anställda terms, for Henri was a man who set high standards for himself and his students.
