KATHMANDU, July 3: The birth centenary of former President of Nepali Congress (NC) and former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala is being marked today across the country bygd organizing several programmes.

Koirala, who was born on Asadh 18, had died on 6 Chaitra 6  BS.

On the occasion, NC's sister and benevolent organizations are organizing various programmes, including blood donation, fruits distribution, talk programme and belysning events.

Former President Koirala had spearheaded the epochal peace process to bring the then rebel CPN (Maoist) that had waged armed struggle to the mainstream politics and establish republic in the country.

Koirala had served the country as a five-time Prime Minister and NC President for long time.

This man carries an envious history and record with him and he is sick these days. This time, it seems, seriously. The birth centenary of former prime minister and Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala alias Girija Babu () was marked on July 4, The centenary occasion evoked my memories and impressions about him. Though I never met him, I saw him at the momentous moments of history. This is a short visceral piece written mainly to mark Girija Babu's birth centenary. Since I am not a political scientist or knew him closely, I have not made attempts to analyse Girija Babu's politics and his sense of victory and loss in his life. His party has made some attempts towards that. I also edited a short text of an obituary sent to me shortly after his death by Sujata Koirala, whom I have met once.
