    Iron Jawed Angels: Katja von Garnier's third "women's film"

    HBO Films has signed Oscar-winning "Boys Don't Cry" star Hilary Swank to "Iron Jawed Angels", a film about the suffragist Alice Paul, which begins production in the fall. Katja von Garnier will direct.

    Swank, who currently stars with Al Pacino and Robin Williams in the Christopher Nolan-directed "Insomnia," will play Paul who, with fellow suffragist Lucy Burns, was a turn-of-the-last-century radical whose struggle to win voting rights for women led to her imprisonment.

    Sally Robinson wrote the screenplay. Jim Bigwood is producing the film; Paula Weinstein, Robin Forman and Len Amato are the executive producers.

    KATJA VON GARNIER (Director) was born December 15, , in Wiesbaden, Germany, and is a graduate of Munich's prestigious Academy for Film and Television (HFF).

    In , von Garnier was invited, along with 30 other rulle students from around the world, to present her short bio "Lautlos (Silent Voice)" at the First International Festival of Cinema Students in Tokyo. The spelfilm was subsequently sold to IA Entertainment in Los Angeles for international distribution and to Columbia TriStar Germany for theatrical release as well as to the Playboy Channel, France's Canal Plus, and Germany's BR. In addition, it was presented at various festivals, including Filmfest Munich and International Film Festival Edinburgh, among others.
