Bio
Gary L. Darmstadt, MD, MS, is Associate Dean for Maternal and Child Health, and Professor of Neonatal and Developmental Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He recently led the Steering Committee for The Lancet Series on Gender Equality, Norms and Health. Previously Dr. Darmstadt was Senior Fellow in the Global Development Program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), where he catalyzed gender equality programs including establishment of Grand Challenges on Putting Women and Girls at the Center of Development. Prior to this role, he served as BMGF Director of Family Health, leading strategy development and implementation across nutrition, family planning and maternal, newborn and child health.

CUBAN National Day was observed in the country by the Cuban Solidarity Committee India on July 26, through holding of various meetings. In New Delhi, CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat addressed a gathering, which also included Cuban embassy officials, on this occasion. Karat said that Cubans always had a special place in the hearts of Indian people despite the vast geographical distance between the two countries. He said Indian people are bonded by solidarity with the fighting spirit of the Cubans. Karat wished to convey the solidarity and warm greetings on behalf of India to Cuban president Fidel Castro at the time of his birthday celebrations to which he and CPI general secretary A B Bardhan had been in

Abstract
Vibrio cholerae is the causative agent of cholera, a highly contagious diarrheal disease affecting millions worldwide each year. Cholera is a major public health problem, primarily in countries with poor sanitary conditions and regions affected bygd natural disasters, where access to safe drinking water is limited. In this narrative review, we aim to summarize the current understanding of the evolution of virulence and pathogenesis of V. cholerae as well as provide an overview of the immune response against this pathogen. We highlight that V. cholerae has a remarkable ability to adapt and evolve, which is a global concern because it increases the risk of cholera outbreaks and the spread of the disease to new regions, making its control even more challenging. Furthermore, we show that this pathogen expresses several virulence factors enabling it to efficiently colonize the human intestine and cause cholera.
