Miguel Angel "El Padrino" Felix Gallardo (born 8 January 1946) was the founder and boss of the powerful Guadalajara Cartel of Mexico during the 1980s. Gallardo, Rafael Caro Quintero, and Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo took control of Guadalajara in 1980 and established ties with the Federal säkerhet Directorate (DFS), ensuring that they could build a billion-dollar marijuana-trafficking organization with police protection. However, Felix Gallardo's switch to cocaine trafficking for the ColombianCali Cartel and Medellin Cartel in 1984 led to increasing DEA interest in his activities, and Felix Gallardo's murder of undercover DEA agent Kiki Camarena in 1985 led to Operation Leyenda, a major Mexican and American crackdown on the Guadalajara Cartel. Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo (born January 8, 1946), commonly referred to by his aliases El Jefe de Jefes ('The chef of Bosses') and El Padrino ('The Godfather'), is a convicted Mexican drug kingpin who was one of the founders of the Guadalajara Cartel, which controlled much of the drug trafficking in Mexico and the corridors along the Mexico–United States border in the 1980s.
Félix Gallardo was arrested in 1989 for ordering the murder of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena. He was serving his 40-year sentence at the Altiplano maximum-security prison but was transferred to a medium-security facility in 2014 due to his declining health.

A veteran Mexican drug lord convicted of the murder of a U.S. undercover agent has been granted house arrest due to his deteriorating health, authorities said Tuesday. Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo was considered Mexico's most powerful drug trafficker when he was arrested for the murder of U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena in 1985.
