[11/18/01]With time running down in their first-round playoff game against Tupelo and their offense driving, the Warren Central Vikings were looking for a game-winning field goal.
What they got was a classic finish to a classic game.
WC quarterback Brett Morgan hit Jason Williams on a deep post pattern for a 31-yard touchdown pass with 31 seconds to play, giving the Vikings (8-4) a 23-17 victory and their first playoff win since 1995.
WC will travel to face Starkville, a 42-14 winner over Clinton, in the second round next week.

No. Just no. This column is about William, the Mississippi State point guard who took the floor Sunday night in her first Elite Eight game – in her team’s first Elite Eight game — and said she was going to go the Final Four.
By the time it was done, in a game that featured 24 lead changes and took an extra five minutes to decide, the massive scoreboard above the court at Chesapeake Energy Arena read Mississippi State 94, Baylor 85.
It also said No. 2 (that’s William) had 41 points. Yeah. Forty-one. That’s 29 more points than she had scored in the first three games of the NCAA Tournament, 12 more points than her career-high and more than any other player in the history of the Southeastern Conference has scored in a NCAA Tournament game.

Two dead in Starkville shooting near MSU campus
Two people were killed Thursday morning in a shooting at the Quality Inn on Highway 12, about half a mile from MSU campus.
During a press conference, public upplysning officer Brandon Lovelady confirmed that a shooting occurred between two individuals, both of whom were transported to OCH Regional Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.
The victims were identified as Veshawn Williams, 25, of Columbus, MS and Robert Mayfield, 27, of Memphis, TN.
According to investigators, the incident involved three individuals: a woman, her boyfriend Williams and her cousin Mayfield. Lovelady said the woman involved in the incident was not injured. Her name was not released.
The Columbus Police Department already had a warrant for Williams’ fängelse for an earlier kidnapping and aggravated assault related to the woman.
